Birth Parents

Adoption can be a second chance for you and your baby.

What is adoption?

Adoption is a choice that requires love courage and self sacrifice.

If I give up my baby for adoption will I ever get him or her back?

No. Adoption is final. However, in Florida there is an "Adoption Reunion Registry" and if you and the child both want to locate each other in the future, you may be able to do so through this registry.

Can I change my mind about adoption?

Yes. If you have not signed the adoption consents and you decided you want to keep the baby, that is your choice. However, please consider this before we match you with an adoptive family. Please remember, that this family has been waiting, possibly for years, to adopt a baby and they have considered this child a part of their family.

Can I change my mind after I sign the adoption consents?

No. Once you have signed the adoption consents they are valid and binding.

When will we do the paperwork?

In the hospital in most cases. We generally do consents 24-48 hours after the birth of the child depending on your discharge. If you have already left the hospital, we may do consents at an attorneys office or a court reporters office.

Can the birth father sign now?

No. No one can sign adoption consents until after the birth of the baby. He may sign at any time after the baby is born. The birth mother must wait 48 hours or until she is discharged from the hospital.

Do I have to go to court?

No. You have the right to go to court if you wish, but to make the process easier on you, the agency and the attorney go to court on your behalf. You are done with your part of the adoption once the adoption consents are signed, most likely in the hospital.

Will I be able to get letters and pictures after the birth of the child?

Yes. If you would like and the adoptive family agrees, we may be able to send you pictures of your child and letters from the family with updates on the child's development. You may always call the agency for updates.

Will DCF take my other children if I give this baby up?

No. DCF will not be involved in our process. This is a private adoption. If you have an open case with DCF they may have to be notified that you have placed this child, but it should not effect the other case.

Can I place my baby after I take it home?

Yes. You can place your baby for adoption at any time. The time frame for changing your mind on a child over 6 months, is three days. Little Angels has placed children from 6 weeks to 7 years of age with wonderful loving families.

Do I take the baby home from the hospital?

Not if we do consents after birth. If you choose the adoption plan before you have the baby, we do adoption consents in the hospital. The baby will then go home with the new adoptive family.

What will I know about the adoptive family?

We will provide you with a profile, a letter about the family in their own words telling you what they and their life are like. We can also ask about; religion, occupations, family involvement, plans to stay at home and future plans for the baby.

How do I know these are good people who adopt my baby?

Each family has been approved by the state to adopt. They have each had a private home study conducted by a liscensed clinical social worker. This consists of background checks, letters of reference, a physical by a doctor, financial checks and an extensive personal interview.
